Ginkgo winner in ice storm
Cracked and shattered trees litter the Oklahoma City landscape now, the remains of an ice storm local forestry officials said was the worst to hit the metro in years. Many trees in gardens fared poorly. The Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City "is just devastated,” said a city spokeswoman. Tall oaks and other trees had snapped in half, most of the 500 or so trees suffered damage. Fifteen or 20 trees were flattened by the ice. Worst hit were elm, pine, oak and ornamental pear trees.
"It looks like the Ginkgo (tree) is the winner,” the garden manager said. "They have no damage at all.”
