Ginkgo direct ancestor angiosperms?

I believe the Ginkgo is the direct ancestor of the angiosperms. When you observe the sprouting of the ginkgo seed and the seed of an apricot you find they are the same. The ginkgo seed has dicotyledons but they usually remain in the seed case.

Notice how the root first comes out of the seed then the sprout develops shooting up between the two short stems to the cotyledons. This is exactly like the apricot cherry and plum. I have not observed other angiosperms but I assume many if not all are the same. Having cotyledons and the way they sprout like angiosperms leads me to believe ginkgo is the ancestor.

Ginkgo leaves fall in one day

On some videos at YouTube you can see how the leaves of a Ginkgo tree fall in one day. One of the makers writes: "Our Ginkgo tree has decided it is done holding its leaves. So for the last 24 hours leaves have been raining down."

Making tea from Ginkgo leaves

Your web page is great; I hope a have a suggestion for those lucky people like me that own a Ginkgo tree in the backyard. The leaves can be harvested by autumn months and easily dried in a common food dehydrator. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes at low temperature to dry them to the point that the stems crack easily on slight pressure. Once dried they can be easily converted into a yellow–greenish powder using a coffee grinder; I use a Krups brand. The powder can be stored in dark brown bottles until next season. As recommended by the Botanical Council an infusion of 2 g of this powder and 150ml of hot spring water make a great tea that can be sweetened with pure bee honey.

Germinating Ginkgo seeds in winter

I was wondering if I could germinate some Ginkgo seeds over the winter indoors with a grow light. I would like to get them started now and then take the seedlings outdoors after the winter is over? Any help would be appreciated....
